Not Afraid of Heights
This photo was sent to me a number of years ago by this man's widow. Unfortunately I don't recall the name. This was logging and this was how you did high lead logging. The man standing on the top of the spar tree has used his climbing gear to go to the top of the tree cutting all of the limbs as he went. When he got to the top he cut it off and held on for dear life as the tree swung back and forth. When he had finished the top he would fasten a riggers block around the tree near the top. The riggers block was used to pull up the high lead block which was much bigger and below that the head trip block which was also large. This type of logging required a two drum donkey to pull the logs to the base of the spar tree as well as pull the chokers back to the setters.
